The Batman (2022)

The Riddler is a simultaneously gross little man and also the most terrifying in his execution. Couldn’t care less about crime lords when this fucker is out there devising the worst methods of death known to man, all according to his own twisted plans. The voyeurism we experience through his eyes is fascinating and horrifying at the same time. Actually, the use of horror tropes was really interesting when mixed with a Batman tale. Definitely grittier than we’ve seen before!

Also!! Beautiful movie!! Gorgeous! The sound design! The costuming! The set design!! I wish I could walk around in the set for Wayne Manor because holy crap that building looked beautiful on the inside, very gothic and historic. Will pause this movie later when I can, just to look at the details closer.

Both RPats and Zoe looked fantastic and I think they killed their roles. This portrayal of Bruce was perfect in showing his intensity and bedraggled nature when not working to solve crimes. Just absolutely feral fella willing to write “I’m a NOCTURNAL ANIMAL” in his journal and underline it. The messy raccoon eyes is a look. Selena was beautiful and deadly, as she should be, and I loved the use of wigs! Her emotional arc during this movie was super interesting, she felt like a true part of the narrative instead of (as I had feared) just a love interest.

Truly though, watching this was three hours of intense hyperfixation and I already want to go back.
